Penang Day 3: Kok Lok Shi & Air Itam Laksa

From Komtar, took bus 201 (RM2) to Kok Lok Shi, of the most famous temple and most visited in Penang.  It was a rather long climb to the temple but still manageable.

Along the wall, the panels indicated donations made by believers of the faith:

The main aim was to visit the Guan Yin statue.  The statue was under construction when I visited a few years back.  You can take a short tram ride (RM4) to the site of the statue.  Alternatively, you could climb the short distance.

Construction work was still going on but the main part has been completed.

Bumped into an acquaitance from Singapore.  What a coincidence!

I climbed the pagoda.   Seriously, nothing really special inside, and the view was not much better. So you could save your energy by not climbing.

At the foot of the temple, and where you alighted from the bus, there was a food stall that had a lot of customers.

This stall served delicious and reasonably priced (RM3.50) air itam laksa. The laksa was on the sour side but it was tasty.   The portion was not big and was a good snack before dinner.

To take the bus back to the city centre, look for this building near the laksa stall.  The bus picked up passengers there.
